| Ganesh, a blind man interviewed for Humans of Dharamshala. http://humansofdharamshala.blogspot.in/ |
This new blog and the companion Facebook page, Humans of Dharamshala (modeled from Humans of New York) was referred to me last week. I read every page twice! And return each day for new posts. I am so excited about this project that I decided to pass this link on to the readers of my blogs. Please check it out. It’s genius.
It’s fresh and honest, yet direct in its approach while subtly revealing the underpinnings of a complex community of Tibetans, Indians, tourists and expats living side-by-side in either extreme slum-poverty or relative wealth, as Indian citizens, foreigners with visas, and Tibetan refugees.
I lived there off and on for over two years. I know some of these people and recognize the faces of others. All walks of Dharamshala life are represented. The approach is short quick-read improv interviews taken on the street that are answered with more honesty than one could expect from people living in this small community that is anchored precariously by an aging Dalai Lama.
Finally. Finally a voice for beggars and businessmen alike. Finally, the faces and names to go with their revealing quotes about their life, even from the men, women and children who escaped the dangers of a brutal and invasive powerful foreign government. This online presence represents courage from both sides of this equation.
